WASHINGTON (AP) — The government is waging a battle against the blockbuster cholesterol drug Crestor, which blocks the body’s cholesterol production, for millions of Americans with high cholesterol. The drug is a blockbuster drug, with a combined sales of $1.7 billion last year, and a market capitalization of about $3.6 billion in the U. S. alone.
The Food and Drug Administration has already approved several other drugs for the treatment of high cholesterol and other conditions. But the Food and Drug Administration is currently spending a record $4.9 billion to combat a growing problem that is increasing access to cholesterol-lowering medicines for the millions of people who already have trouble getting high.
